This page will share some basic financial facts about our group and the treasury balance. A rolling 3-month balance summary will be posted (generally at the end of a month).
Allentown Center City Chess Club has no formal dues -- our operations run on the proceeds of our weekly events. We have the following recurring expenses:
Monthly donation ($200) to St. Luke's Church (we try to be good tenants)
USCF affiliate fee ($40 1x year)
TLA in Chess Life for our monthly quads (varies -- currently $100 every 6 mths)
Supplies (TD supplies, printing flyers, buying scoresheets from USCF)
Each weekly event must cover the cost of the prize fund, the USCF rating fee, a small stipend for the TD, and any miscellaneous expenses. If our weekly events do not generate a "profit" that is sufficient to cover the cost of the monthly church donation, then the club is in a "deficit position" (those of you who use Fritz to analyze your chess games know what that means!).
Any weekly event that generates a "profit" of less than $50 is not meeting the pro-rated church donation cost (i.e. overhead) for that week, though it might still make a positive contribution to treasury.
Club has had a "deficit position" for quite some time -- it is backed by the "bank of the organizer" and that is why we have been able to buy a few new sets and related items despite the negative fund balance.
